Perhaps this has something to do with the poor quality of the search function at the Canadian Genealogy Centre. The Americans with the $$$ were able to build an index over the 1911 census a little quicker.
There was a real danger that it may be impossible for Canadians to ever have access to any more Canadian Census information. Legislation affecting public access of these vital records has been misinterpreted (perhaps intentionally) by Statistics Canada. It is essential that this situation be changed to ensure continued UNRESTRICTED public access, after a period of closure, of all Canadian Census records. These records are OUR heritage.
Non-release of the Canadian census records would affect millions, not only in Canada, but world-wide, as the ordinary citizen, genealogists, historians search for history of genetic diseases, lost family members and the settling of wills and estates. The present situation must be changed.
Send letters to your Member of Parliament requesting that he or she support the cause of the Canada Census Committee for unrestricted access to the Canadian Census Records.
