Boing Boing: Investigative blogger picking at secret “A-Hole” technology!

by @ 12:23. Filed under Technology

Look at that! I’m not the only Computer Proctologist. Boing Boing has picked up on another:

Kathryn Cramer, an investigative blogger, has begun to publish the results of her research into VEIL. VEIL is a technology that the entertainment industry has proposed to turn into a legal requirement for all devices capable of turning an analog signal into a digital one: cameras, recorders and mics of all kinds, in other words. This is to “plug the analog hole.”

Kull (Kuhl) Family Historical Tour

by @ 13:59. Filed under Genealogy

Bob Snyder has put together a little historical tour that traces some of the places that the Kull family descendants migrated to and through over quite a number of years.

You’ll need to download Google Earth in order to do the tour. But that’s relatively painless and certainly worthwhile and life changing!

You can download the tour at the Kull Family Yahoo group - files area. You’ll have to be a member to access the files area.

Complicated, isn’t it… this Internet stuff! But there are several of us over 60, even some pushing 70, that have figured out how to navigate through this world. And, it’s amazing the stuff we’re able to share.

The Canadian Census Problem

by @ 10:49. Filed under Genealogy

Perhaps this has something to do with the poor quality of the search function at the Canadian Genealogy Centre. The Americans with the $$$ were able to build an index over the 1911 census a little quicker.

There was a real danger that it may be impossible for Canadians to ever have access to any more Canadian Census information. Legislation affecting public access of these vital records has been misinterpreted (perhaps intentionally) by Statistics Canada. It is essential that this situation be changed to ensure continued UNRESTRICTED public access, after a period of closure, of all Canadian Census records. These records are OUR heritage.

Non-release of the Canadian census records would affect millions, not only in Canada, but world-wide, as the ordinary citizen, genealogists, historians search for history of genetic diseases, lost family members and the settling of wills and estates. The present situation must be changed.

Send letters to your Member of Parliament requesting that he or she support the cause of the Canada Census Committee for unrestricted access to the Canadian Census Records.

Freecycle factoids - a new feature on Freecycle.org

by @ 3:49. Filed under Freecycle, Neat stuff

Freecycle.org has a new feature…  “Freecycle Fun Fact”.  You can see the morphing facts on Freecycle’s home page

I don’t know what the source is or how authoritative these “facts” are, but they are interesting and thought provoking.  Here are a few that have been mentioned.
